Apple is one of the most popular operating systems. It’s also one of the best brands for gadgets and devices, with Macbooks and iPhones being one of the most used gadgets out there. The sleek design and many features it holds is what makes it popular and loved by the majority. One of the cool features a Macbook has would be the fact that you can also make it into a Wi-Fi hotspot to share you files or Internet connection with other devices (If you use the Ethernet method to connect to the Internet). But how exactly can you do that? In this article, we show you how to create a Wifi hotspot in Mac.
How to Create a Wi-Fi Hotspot in Mac
To switch on and configure your Wifi hotspot on your Mac, simply follow these steps:
And your hotspot is now on and ready to use! Take note that when you switch on the Internet Sharing services, you won’t be able to connect to the Internet via Wifi, as your Macbook is using it in order to make your hotspot run.
How to Configure Wifi Hotspot in Mac
If you would like to edit the name or password, or tweak the devices that are allowed to connect, then you are able to configure the options by following these steps:
Using Your Mac’s Wifi With Hotspot
Like mentioned, you aren’t able to use your Macbook’s hotspot and connect to the Wifi at the same time. But there will be times when you want to do this, like when only one of your devices is allowed to connect to a Wifi hotspot in certain areas (usually in cafes or hotels). So what can you do?
If you want to share your Macbook’s Wifi connection, then you can do so through using another network interface, such as investing on a USB Wifi adapter.
Another method would be to creating a Bluetooth Personal Area Network. This will take time to connect devices (and they need to have Bluetooth) with and the Internet will be a bit slow, but you will also be able to save battery with this method and still be able to use both wifi and create an alternative “hotspot” for your other devices. You can do this through connecting to the Wifi and heading on back to Internet Sharing from system preferences. Choose “Bluetooth PAN” as a way to share your connection and pair your devices to the Macbook via Bluetooth.
In Conclusion
With these steps, you will now be able to configure wifi hotspot on your Mac. It’s simple and easy to do, so you will now be able to connect all your devices simultaneously and share files or Internet connecton with ease.

Instant Hotspot is similar to Personal Hotspot on iPhone or iPad but one major difference between the two is ease-of-use. The latter involves setting a password and authenticating it on your Mac. But with Instant Hotspot, you can connect your Mac (OS X Yosemite) instantly to your iPhone’s Personal Hotspot (via Cellular data, of course) without having to input passwords.

We’ve covered a lot on how to setup and use Instant Hotspot between a Mac and your iDevice but there’s a strong chance that you might run into problems.
Tips on Troubleshooting Instant Hotspot Connectivity Issues on Mac
- Connectify Hotspot is the most popular free WiFi hotspot software that you can use to turn your Windows computer into a WiFi hotspot. Having advanced virtual router functionalities, you can also extend your WiFi range without any additional hardware routers, bridge any devices to your home network and save bandwidth and money with the included.
- When that’s done, you can turn Personal Hotspot on using the switch along the top of the Personal Hotspot settings. Next, it’s time to connect to your hotspot on your laptop using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or USB. Connect to Your Hotspot Over Wi-Fi. Make Sure All Devices Have the Same iCloud Account
You need to make sure that you have the same iCloud account associated with all the devices. For instance, if you are using a MacBook to connect to your iPhone’s data (via Instant Hotspot), it can only happen when you’ve used the same iCloud account on the Mac and the iPhone.
In Mac, check out System Preferences > iCloud to verify this. (On the iPhone, it’s in Settings > iCloud)
Make Sure Your Data Plan Supports Personal Hotspot
To systematize Instant Hotspot, you must have a Personal Hotspot-compatible data plan on your iPhone or one that supports tethering. If not then contact your carrier to check for compatibility.
Enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in both the devices
Before moving further you must enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in the devices you are to connect with.
Reboot Devices
Sometimes rebooting the devices fix many problems so try this alternative too. Reboot both the devices. First shut down your Mac completely and reboot it. Then reboot your iOS device.
Change the name of your iPhone or iPad
Sometimes, changing the name of the iPhone can make your Instant Hotspot work. So, change your iPhone’s name by going into Settings. If you do not know how to change the name of your iPhone/iPad, follow these steps:
Create Hotspot On Mac
Step #1. Go to Settings
Step #2. Tap on General
Step #3. Tap on About
Step #4. Tap on Name
Step #5. Type the new name and then tap on Done
Step #6. Then refresh the Wi-Fi connection on your Mac to see whether it shows the name of your iPhone now.
Step #7. If not, reboot both the devices again and follow the same process.

Still not able to connect your devices?
Reset your network setting on your iPhone/iPad, it can sort out your connectivity issues. Do remember, resetting the network will clear out all your saved Wi-Fi passwords and connected Bluetooth devices from the iPhone/iPad. To connect with the Wi-Fi networks, you will have to re-enter the passwords.
If you do not know how to Reset Network then follow these steps:
